Day 13 Sleeping Giant
While today started out as another rainy day, the afternoon
gave way to glorious sunshine. Last night we had another humdinger of a storm. Not
like the storms in Algonquin and Samuel de Champlain thankfully! I guess the
thing is, no matter how glorious the day turns out to be, when you have enough
torrential storms at night, the landscape just can’t absorb any more water. We
set out early afternoon to finally do some serious hiking and we found the
soggy trails, bug ridden! The boardwalks through the wettest sections were
actually worse. The old, mossy boards were treacherously slippery. Cautiously
stepping and suddenly slipping seemed way more risky than worth it, so after
two attempts on two trails we abandoned the effort for a day at the campground.
We wandered, we read, I crocheted, we napped. We sat and watched the sun turn
the lake into thousands of glittering jewels with the breezes. We lazed the day
away! Doesn’t make for an exciting blog, but it does make for quite a lovely
day!
Some of the sparkle is visible on the water here. The real thing was something!
Very lush and pretty, but easy to see why trails were buggy and boardwalks were slippery!
Our evening was filled with playing a new game. Azul is fun.
David got to play first because he was the last person in Portugal (he always
lets me on a plane ahead of him!), but Jenna was the big winner. Thanks
Mary-Kate and Greg!
