Day 37 Waterton Lakes National Park

Most often in my life the glass is half-full and there is just no other way to see it. Sometimes though, finding the blessings in your day takes real effort and determination. Sadly, today was one of those days for us. This blog has always been a joyous reflection for me, of the amazing things that happen when you slow down to notice them.  I wouldn’t remember this day accurately though if I didn’t admit it was a bit of a tough day. We woke to driving rain that was supposed to last for the whole day. Our more pressing issue though was that David’s blistering rash had gotten significantly worse! Fearing we were off track with our bug bite hypothesis we thought it best to seek some medical help. Currently southern Alberta is a hot spot for measles, and we were hesitant to risk exposing David to that at an ER Department. Our doctor’s office is amazing and agreed to a virtual appointment with pictures of the rash being sent and symptoms being discussed. Eventually, despite having been vaccinated twice, it appears that David may have shingles! Prescriptions were sent to the nearest pharmacy about 30 minutes away and we were off to find Cardston AB. While all that was happening, we had gotten a message from David’s sister that their aunt had passed away in the night. Before the afternoon was over, we had bad news from three different people near and dear to us, that all received horrible health news. To respect their privacy, I won’t share more details other than to say we are heartbroken, and it feels almost impossible that this could all have happened in just one day.

By the end of the afternoon, we were all pretty sad, so when the sun finally appeared, we made a decision to look for whatever beautiful treasures the day might offer us here in the mountains. We were rewarded with the reminder that life offers peace and beauty if you can find the strength to look. I won’t say any more. The pictures can speak.

From our trailer door as the rain moved out
The clouds are still scattered in the mountains
👆 These may be my favourite pictures of the trip 👇 I can't decide which one I like the best.

Water falls in the mountains. The colours are spectacular.
Can you see the Bighorn Sheep?
A great view of bears, and my little camera has a great zoom!
