Day 48 Grundy Lake Provincial Park (again)
Another Point A-to-Point B kinda day! Our four-hour drive turned into six hours as we were stopped on the highway for long (VERY long!) stretches of time for road repairs. We passed through Bruce Mine, a cute little town that was the site of the first copper mine in Canada, and Echo Bay, hometown of Robert Carmichael who designed the loon for our loonie. They have erected a giant monument of the sign in his honour. We also received a call (on one of the rare moments we had cell service!) booking us for grandparent duty – LOVE IT! Other than that, we left Lake Superior shores, turned right and drove through trees and rocks. Beautiful trees and rocks to be fair but after days of driving…
We arrived at Grundy Lake only to discover that our
reservations inexplicably were for tomorrow night and not tonight. I say inexplicably
since I could NOT have possibly made such an error! A very patient young girl
helped sort the mess and found us a site for the night. It has no hook-ups and
is in a location that only David Boss could maneuver 48 feet of truck and
trailer into, but here we are!
The park is much busier than when we were here seven weeks
ago, but it’s no less lovely. During our after-dinner stroll, as we sat at the edge
of the lake, we talked about the iconic nature of geography. We have seen so
many different landscapes over this 8,000km journey. Each area was beautiful,
but in vastly different ways. We are so blessed to call Canada home and to
enjoy the luxury of wandering through its diversity. As I said though, there
are iconic views. If someone blindfolded me and dropped my here at this lake, I
would, with certainty, tell you we were in the Parry Sound area!
